Damac Club Stadium
History
Damac Club Stadium, located in Khamis Mushait in Saudi Arabia's Asir Province, has been the home of Damac FC since the late 1990s. The 12,000-seat venue sits in one of the most geographically distinctive football locations in the Saudi Pro League — Asir Province occupies the mountainous southwestern corner of the Kingdom, where elevations exceed 2,000 meters and the climate is dramatically cooler and greener than the desert lowlands that characterize most of Saudi Arabia. This unique setting gives Damac Club Stadium a character unlike any other ground in the SPL.
The stadium was built to serve Damac FC and the broader Khamis Mushait sporting community, and its design reflects the practical needs of a club that spent most of its history in the lower divisions of Saudi football. A main grandstand provides covered seating, while open terracing fills the remaining sides. The altitude and climate of Asir Province mean that the pitch benefits from cooler temperatures and occasional rainfall, creating playing conditions that are closer to Mediterranean football than to the desert game played in Riyadh and the Eastern Province.
Damac FC's promotion to the Saudi Pro League transformed the stadium's status and significance. What had been a lower-division ground suddenly hosted matches featuring international stars, and the venue required upgrades to meet SPL broadcasting and safety standards. Floodlighting, media facilities, and hospitality areas were all enhanced, though the stadium's fundamental character — intimate, atmospheric, and deeply connected to its community — was preserved. The altitude factor has become part of Damac's home advantage; visiting teams from sea-level cities sometimes struggle with the thinner air, and the cooler evening temperatures create playing conditions that favor a high-energy pressing style.
For Damac supporters, the stadium represents the focal point of footballing life in Asir Province. Match days draw supporters from across the region, descending from mountain villages and ascending from the coastal plain to converge on Khamis Mushait. The stadium's atmosphere on these occasions reflects the tight community bonds that define life in Saudi Arabia's southern highlands, and the club's continued presence in the top flight ensures that those bonds are strengthened with every home fixture.
