SHG Arena
History
SHG Arena opened in 2024 as the dedicated home of Al-Shabab FC, one of the Saudi Pro League's most historically significant clubs. Located in Riyadh, the 22,000-seat stadium was purpose-built to give Al-Shabab a modern venue that could serve as the foundation for the club's next era. After years of ground-sharing arrangements and playing at multi-purpose venues that diluted the club's home identity, SHG Arena finally provided Al-Shabab with a space uniquely and unmistakably their own.
The stadium's design reflects contemporary trends in football architecture — steep, close-to-the-pitch seating designed to maximize atmosphere; a continuous roof that traps noise and directs it back toward the playing surface; and premium hospitality areas that generate the commercial revenues modern football clubs require. The bowl's geometry was carefully calculated to ensure that every seat offers an unobstructed view of the pitch, addressing a common complaint about older Saudi venues where obstructed views and excessive distance from the action diminished the spectator experience.
Al-Shabab's history stretches back to 1947, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Saudi Arabia. The club's palmarès includes multiple Saudi Pro League titles, King's Cup victories, and strong showings in Asian continental competition. That heritage is embedded in the stadium's design — a museum-quality hall of honor in the main concourse chronicles the club's achievements, and the wall of former captains greets supporters as they enter through the principal gates. The past is present at SHG Arena, even as the building itself is resolutely forward-looking.
The naming rights agreement with SHG (Saudi Holding Group) exemplifies the commercial partnerships that have become standard across the Saudi Pro League. The stadium's digital infrastructure, including high-density wireless networks and integrated app-based services for ticketing, concessions, and replays, positions it as one of the most technologically connected venues in the Middle East. For Al-Shabab supporters who endured years of shared-venue anonymity, SHG Arena is the reward — a home that reflects the club's stature and sets the stage for its future.
