San Antonio Missions
One of the Texas League's most storied franchises, the San Antonio Missions have been a cornerstone of Texas baseball since 1968, carrying forward a tradition that dates back to San Antonio's charter membership in the Texas League in 1888—now serving as the San Diego Padres' Double-A affiliate.
The San Antonio Missions are the Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, playing in the Texas League at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium. San Antonio has one of the deepest baseball histories of any city in the minor leagues, with roots stretching back to 1888 as a charter member of the Texas League. The current incarnation of the Missions began play in 1968 and has been a Texas League fixture ever since, with a brief stint as a Triple-A team from 2019-2020 before returning to Double-A under the 2021 MiLB reorganization.
Wolff Stadium, which opened in 1994, seats 6,200 with additional berm seating and has been the team's home for over three decades. The Missions have been affiliated with numerous MLB organizations throughout their history, including the Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, and Milwaukee Brewers. The current partnership with the San Diego Padres began in 2021.
The franchise's alumni list spans eras and organizations: Fernando Valenzuela, Adrian Beltre, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Jackson Merrill are among the major league stars who played in San Antonio. The Missions have won multiple Texas League championships, most recently in 2013. In 2022, a local ownership group led by Designated Bidders LLC—which includes David Robinson, Manu Ginobili, and Ryan Sanders Baseball—purchased the franchise, bringing San Antonio sports legends into the ownership structure. Chris Tremie takes over as manager for the 2026 season.
