Dorilton Capital

Owner

2020–present

Dorilton Capital, a New York-based private investment firm led by Matthew Savage, acquired Williams Racing in August 2020 from the Williams family. The purchase ended over four decades of family ownership and brought significant new investment into the Grove factory's infrastructure, personnel, and technology. Dorilton has taken a patient, investment-driven approach, hiring James Vowles from Mercedes as team principal and committing to a multi-year rebuilding plan.

Historical Figures

Sir Frank Williams

Founder & Former Team Principal

1977–2020

Sir Frank Williams, who passed away in November 2021, founded Williams Grand Prix Engineering in 1977 and built it into one of the most successful constructors in Formula 1 history. Despite being paralyzed from the neck down in a road accident in 1986, Williams continued to run the team from his wheelchair with an iron will for over three decades. Nine constructors' championships and seven drivers' titles were won under his stewardship before the family sold the team to Dorilton Capital.
