Corbin Carroll's Hamate Bone Recovery

Corbin Carroll had surgery to remove a broken hamate bone on February 11 and is making his way back through spring training. He returned as a DH against the Athletics this week and appears on track for Opening Day, but the D-backs will be cautious with their franchise centerpiece after a turbulent couple of seasons.

Outfield Shuffle Without Gurriel

With Lourdes Gurriel Jr. sidelined to start the season due to a serious knee injury, the Diamondbacks face a wide-open outfield competition. Blaze Alexander, Jordan Lawlar, Tim Tawa, and Jorge Barrosa are all jockeying for playing time alongside Carroll, while top prospect Druw Jones lurks as a non-roster invitee in camp.

Can the Rotation Stay Healthy?

Merrill Kelly is also working his way back this spring alongside Carroll, and the D-backs need both healthy to have any shot at returning to October. Zac Gallen anchors the staff, but Arizona's depth arms will be tested early if the injury bug lingers.
