Los Angeles Angels

Current Leadership

Arte Moreno

Owner & Chairman

2003–present

Arte Moreno, a billionaire who made his fortune in the outdoor advertising industry through Outdoor Systems (later sold to Infinity Broadcasting), purchased the Angels in 2003 for $183.5 million, becoming the first Mexican-American to own a major U.S. professional sports team. While the Angels won the 2002 World Series just before his purchase, Moreno's tenure has been marked by aggressive free-agent spending - including the massive contracts for Albert Pujols and Mike Trout - but limited playoff success. He briefly explored selling the team in 2023 before taking it off the market.

Carole Moreno

Co-Owner

2003–present

Carole Moreno, Arte's wife, has been a key part of the Angels ownership group since the acquisition. She has been actively involved in the team's community outreach and philanthropic initiatives, particularly the Angels Baseball Foundation's work supporting youth baseball and education programs throughout Southern California.

Historical Figures

The Walt Disney Company

Former Owner

1996–2003

The Walt Disney Company purchased the Angels from Gene Autry's estate in 1996, renaming them the Anaheim Angels and renovating Angel Stadium with a Disney-themed family entertainment experience. Disney's tenure culminated in the franchise's only World Series championship in 2002, with the iconic Rally Monkey becoming a lasting symbol of that magical postseason run. Disney sold the team to Arte Moreno in 2003 as part of a broader corporate strategy to divest non-core assets.

Gene Autry

Founding Owner

1961–1996

Gene Autry, the legendary 'Singing Cowboy' of Hollywood fame, was the founding owner of the Angels when the American League expanded to the West Coast in 1961. Despite decades of ownership and beloved status among fans, Autry never saw his team win a World Series - earning the Angels the reputation as 'the cursed franchise.' His wife Jackie Autry managed the team after his death in 1998 until the Disney sale was completed.
