Anheuser-Busch, the iconic St. Louis brewing company, owned the Cardinals for over four decades, making the team and Budweiser virtually synonymous. Under the stewardship of August Busch Jr. and later August Busch III, the Cardinals won World Series titles in 1964, 1967, and 1982 and featured Hall of Famers like Stan Musial, Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, and Ozzie Smith. The brewery sold the team to the DeWitt group in 1996 as part of a corporate restructuring.

Sam Breadon

Former Owner

1920–1947

Sam Breadon presided over the Cardinals during their rise to National League prominence in the 1920s through 1940s, working with Branch Rickey to create the farm system concept that revolutionized baseball. Under Breadon's ownership, the Cardinals won six pennants and four World Series titles, establishing St. Louis as one of baseball's great cities.
