2002–present

Joey Saputo, son of Italian-Canadian food magnate Lino Saputo, has been the driving force behind professional soccer in Montreal since founding the Montreal Impact in the USL in 2002. He spearheaded the club's move to MLS in 2012 and oversaw the rebrand to CF Montréal in 2021. Saputo also owns Bologna FC in Italy's Serie A.

1992–2002

The Saputo family was involved in Montreal's professional soccer landscape long before MLS. They helped establish and support the Montreal Impact in various lower divisions, building the fanbase and infrastructure that eventually made an MLS expansion bid viable.
