City Football Group (CFG), the Abu Dhabi-backed global multi-club ownership entity led by chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, owns New York City FC as part of its worldwide network that includes Manchester City, Melbourne City FC, and other clubs. CFG has invested heavily in NYCFC's roster, academy, and the development of a new stadium in Queens.

Former Minority Partner
Yankee Global Enterprises, the parent company of the New York Yankees, was a founding minority partner in NYCFC, contributing brand recognition and access to Yankee Stadium as the club's initial home venue. The Yankees divested their stake in 2021, leaving CFG as the sole owner.
