Indiana Pacers
Current Leadership
Owner
Real estate billionaire Herb Simon, co-founder of Simon Property Group, has owned the Pacers since purchasing them with his brother Mel in 1983. At over 90 years old, Simon is the longest-tenured owner in the NBA and has kept the small-market franchise competitive for decades. Under his stewardship, the Pacers have been consistent playoff contenders and reached the NBA Finals in 2000 and made a surprise run to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2024.
Vice Chairman
Steve Simon, Herb's son, has taken on an increasingly prominent role in the Pacers organization and is expected to eventually succeed his father as the franchise's controlling owner. He has been involved in the team's business operations and strategic planning, helping to modernize the franchise while maintaining its Indiana roots.

Historical Figures
Co-Owner
Mel Simon, Herb's brother and co-founder of Simon Property Group, was a co-owner of the Pacers for over two decades. The Simon brothers' deep pockets and commitment to Indianapolis kept the franchise stable in a small market. Mel passed away in 2009, leaving Herb as the sole controlling owner.
Owner
California businessman Sam Nassi purchased the Pacers during their transition from the ABA to the NBA but struggled financially to keep the team afloat. His inability to sustain the franchise led to the sale to the Simon brothers in 1983, which proved to be a turning point for the organization's stability.
