Current Leadership

Mat Ishbia

Governor & Managing Partner

2023–present

Mat Ishbia, president and CEO of United Wholesale Mortgage, purchased the Phoenix Suns and WNBA's Mercury in 2023 for a then-record $4 billion. The former Michigan State basketball walk-on has been aggressive in his approach, assembling a star-studded roster featuring Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal while showing a willingness to spend into the luxury tax. Ishbia has brought a youthful, hands-on energy to the franchise that contrasts sharply with his predecessor.

Robert Sarver

Managing Partner

2004–2023

Banking executive Robert Sarver owned the Suns for nearly two decades, overseeing the exciting Steve Nash era and the 2021 NBA Finals run. However, his tenure ended in scandal after an NBA investigation substantiated allegations of workplace misconduct, including racist and misogynistic behavior. Sarver was initially suspended for one year but ultimately decided to sell the team amid mounting pressure from sponsors, players, and the public.
