Current Leadership

Jody Allen

Chair & Owner

2018–present

Jody Allen, sister of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, has served as the chair and trustee of the Paul G. Allen Trust, which owns the Trail Blazers. Following Paul's death in 2018, Jody has overseen the franchise during a transitional period that has included the Damian Lillard trade and a full-scale rebuild. The team's long-term ownership future has been a subject of speculation, as the Allen Trust has explored potential sales of some of its sports assets.

Historical Figures

Paul Allen

Owner

1988–2018

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen purchased the Trail Blazers in 1988 for $70 million, saving the franchise from potential relocation. His deep pockets fueled some of the most talented (and controversial) rosters in NBA history, including the early 2000s 'Jail Blazers' teams that came within a game of the NBA Finals. Allen also funded the construction of the Moda Center and was beloved in Portland for his commitment to keeping the franchise in the city. He passed away in 2018.

Larry Weinberg

Owner

1975–1988

Real estate developer Larry Weinberg owned the Trail Blazers during their golden era, including the 1977 NBA championship led by Bill Walton. Financial difficulties and the challenge of competing in a small market eventually led Weinberg to sell the franchise to Paul Allen in 1988.
