Sacramento Kings

Current Leadership

Vivek Ranadive

Governor & Chairman

2013–present

Tech entrepreneur Vivek Ranadive, founder of TIBCO Software, purchased the Kings in 2013 for $534 million, outbidding a Seattle-based group that intended to relocate the franchise. Ranadive's purchase kept the Kings in Sacramento and he championed the construction of the Golden 1 Center, a state-of-the-art arena that has revitalized downtown Sacramento. The Kings ended their record 16-year playoff drought in 2023 behind De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, reinvigorating the franchise's passionate fanbase.

Historical Figures

Maloof Family

Owners

1999–2013

The Maloof family, led by brothers Gavin and Joe, owned the Kings during the franchise's most exciting era in Sacramento, including the early 2000s teams featuring Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, and Mike Bibby. However, financial difficulties and a failed arena deal led to the family's attempt to relocate the team to multiple cities before ultimately selling to Vivek Ranadive's group.

Jim Thomas

Managing Partner

1992–1999

Real estate developer Jim Thomas helped keep the Kings in Sacramento during a difficult period for the franchise and oversaw the early rebuilding efforts that would eventually lead to the team's early 2000s renaissance. He sold his stake to the Maloof family in 1999.
