Historical Figures

Al Davis

Managing General Partner & Owner

1966–2011

Al Davis was the Raiders. As head coach, general manager, and eventual managing general partner for nearly five decades, Davis built the franchise into one of professional football's most iconic organizations. He won three Super Bowls, fought the NFL in court and won, moved the franchise to Los Angeles and back, and created a culture of rebellion and excellence that defines the Raiders to this day. Davis coined the motto 'Just Win, Baby' and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992.

Wayne Valley

Co-Founder & Original Owner

1960–1972

Wayne Valley was a founding owner of the Oakland Raiders who provided the financial backing and stability that allowed the franchise to survive its difficult early AFL years. Valley's partnership with Al Davis eventually became contentious, leading to a legal dispute over control of the franchise that Davis ultimately won.
