Chairman & Controlling Owner
Dean Spanos assumed full control as chairman of the Chargers after the death of his father, Alex Spanos, in 2018. He had been the team's president and CEO since 1994 and was the driving force behind the franchise's controversial relocation from San Diego to Los Angeles in 2017. Under his leadership, the Chargers moved into SoFi Stadium in 2020 and hired Jim Harbaugh in 2024 to lead the team's on-field resurgence.

Historical Figures
Owner & Chairman
Alex Spanos, a self-made billionaire from the real estate and construction industry, purchased a majority stake in the Chargers in 1984. Under his ownership, the franchise reached Super Bowl XXIX following the 1994 season and developed some of the NFL's most exciting rosters during the LaDainian Tomlinson and Philip Rivers era. Spanos gradually ceded day-to-day control to his son Dean in the 2000s before passing away in 2018.
Founding Owner
Barron Hilton, son of hotel magnate Conrad Hilton, founded the Los Angeles Chargers as a charter member of the American Football League in 1960. After one season in L.A., Hilton moved the team to San Diego in 1961. He hired the visionary Sid Gillman as head coach and built the Chargers into the AFL's most exciting franchise, winning the 1963 AFL Championship. Hilton sold the team in 1966 but left a lasting legacy as the man who brought professional football to San Diego.
