Historical Figures

Norman Braman

Owner

1985–1994

South Florida automobile magnate Norman Braman purchased the Eagles in 1985. His tenure saw the Buddy Ryan era and multiple playoff appearances, but his reputation for frugality—most notably letting Reggie White leave in free agency—made him unpopular with fans.

Leonard Tose

Owner

1969–1985

Trucking magnate Leonard Tose bought the Eagles in 1969 for $16 million. He hired Dick Vermeil, who led the team to Super Bowl XV. Financial troubles from gambling debts forced Tose to sell the franchise in 1985.

Jerry Wolman

Owner

1963–1969

Washington, D.C. developer Jerry Wolman purchased the Eagles in 1963 at age 36, becoming the youngest owner in the NFL. Financial difficulties in the construction industry forced him to sell the team after just six years.

Bert Bell

Co-Founder & Owner

1933–1940

Bert Bell co-founded the Eagles in 1933 and served as coach and owner during the franchise's early years. He later became NFL Commissioner (1946-1959) and is credited with creating the NFL Draft and establishing the league's television policies.
