Historical Figures
Former Owner
Peter Karmanos Jr., a technology entrepreneur who founded Compuware, purchased the Hartford Whalers in 1994 and relocated the team to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1997, renaming them the Hurricanes. Under his ownership the team won the 2006 Stanley Cup, establishing hockey in a non-traditional market. Financial challenges in later years led to the sale to Dundon in 2018.
