Nationwide Realty Investors has been a critical partner in the Blue Jackets' existence, developing Nationwide Arena in the Arena District of downtown Columbus. Their investment helped create one of the most successful arena-district developments in professional sports and ensured the long-term viability of hockey in Columbus.

John H. McConnell

Founding Owner

1997–2008

John H. McConnell, founder of Worthington Industries, was the driving force behind bringing NHL hockey to Columbus as an expansion franchise in 2000. He was awarded the franchise in 1997 and invested over $130 million in the team and arena. McConnell passed away in 2008, but his legacy as the father of Columbus hockey endures.
