Historical Figures
Former Owner
Mike Ilitch, founder of Little Caesars Pizza, purchased the Red Wings in 1982 when the franchise was at its lowest point, nicknamed the 'Dead Wings.' He invested heavily in talent and transformed Detroit into the NHL's premier franchise, winning four Stanley Cups in 1997, 1998, 2002, and 2008. His commitment to winning and to the city of Detroit made him one of the most beloved sports owners in American history. He passed away in February 2017.
