Anze Kopitar is on the cusp of becoming the all-time leading scorer in Kings franchise history. The 38-year-old captain already became the 39th skater in NHL history to reach 1,300 career points and the 25th player to play 1,500 games. It's been a milestone-laden season for a Kings legend.
The Kings rank 27th in the power rankings and have been fading badly. At 24-18-13 through February, their record is dragged down by an alarming number of overtime and shootout losses. Los Angeles is in serious danger of missing the playoffs entirely despite having legitimate star power.
With the season slipping away, the Kings dealt John Carlson to Anaheim and Corey Perry to Tampa Bay. The moves signal that Los Angeles is pivoting toward the future, even as Kopitar chases history in what could be one of his final seasons.
