Geoff Molson, a sixth-generation member of the Molson brewing dynasty, led a family group that purchased the Montreal Canadiens, the Bell Centre, and Evenko entertainment in 2009 for approximately $575 million. The Molson family name is synonymous with the Canadiens, having previously owned the team from 1957 to 1978. Geoff has been a passionate steward of the most storied franchise in NHL history, overseeing a rebuild centered around young talent.

2001–2009

George Gillett Jr., an American businessman from Colorado, purchased the Canadiens in 2001 for $275 million. While he oversaw a period of competitive hockey, his simultaneous ownership of Liverpool F.C. and financial pressures from the 2008 recession led him to sell the Canadiens back to the Molson family in 2009.
