Historical Figures
Former Owner
Harold Ballard was one of the most controversial owners in professional sports history. He controlled the Maple Leafs from 1972 until his death in 1990, a period marked by chronic on-ice futility, public feuds, and mismanagement. Ballard's penny-pinching ways and erratic decisions turned one of hockey's proudest franchises into a laughingstock, and the team failed to win a single playoff series for most of his tenure.
