Owner & Chairman
Steve Malik founded the North Carolina Courage on January 9, 2017, after acquiring NWSL franchise rights from the Western New York Flash. A technology entrepreneur and investor, Malik relocated the team to Cary, North Carolina, and built a dynasty that won back-to-back NWSL Championships in 2018 and 2019.
Investor
Billionaire Marc Lasry, former co-owner of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks, purchased a minority stake in the North Carolina Courage in early 2026 through his Avenue Sports Fund at a $155 million valuation. The investment does not include a path to control.
Investor
Professional tennis champion Naomi Osaka made an investment in the North Carolina Courage in January 2021, joining the club's ownership group as part of her broader portfolio of investments in women's sports.
