Named for the iconic green jacket awarded at The Masters, the Augusta GreenJackets have spent nearly four decades developing future big leaguers on the banks of the Savannah River. Now the Single-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, they call the stunning SRP Park home and carry a proud tradition of four league championships.
The Augusta GreenJackets are the Single-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, playing in the Carolina League at SRP Park in North Augusta, South Carolina. The franchise dates back to 1988, when the Macon Pirates relocated to Augusta and became the Augusta Pirates. After six seasons as a Pittsburgh affiliate, the team rebranded as the GreenJackets in 1994 — a name that pays homage to The Masters Tournament held just across the Savannah River in Augusta, Georgia.
Over four decades, the GreenJackets have produced an extraordinary pipeline of Major League talent. During their long tenure as a San Francisco Giants affiliate (2005–2020), Augusta was the launching pad for future stars like Madison Bumgarner, Buster Posey, and Brandon Belt. The team also developed notable players as a Pirates and Red Sox affiliate earlier in its history, including Moises Alou, Bronson Arroyo, Kevin Youkilis, Hanley Ramirez, and Jon Lester.
The franchise boasts four South Atlantic League championships (1989, 1995, 1999, and 2008), with the 2008 title highlighted by a dominant 88-50 regular-season record fueled by a teenaged Bumgarner on the mound. The 2006 squad posted the best record in all of Minor League Baseball at 92-47 under manager Roberto Kelly.
In 2018, the GreenJackets moved from their longtime home at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, Georgia, across the river to the brand-new SRP Park in North Augusta. The 4,782-seat ballpark quickly earned acclaim, winning Baseballparks.com's Ballpark of the Year. The 2021 Minor League reorganization shifted the team's affiliation from the Giants to the Braves, beginning a new chapter in Augusta baseball. Under Diamond Baseball Holdings ownership, the GreenJackets continue to serve as one of the premier player-development stops in the Braves' system.
