Clearwater Threshers
The Clearwater Threshers carry on a Phillies tradition in Florida that dates back to 1985, developing future stars at sun-soaked BayCare Ballpark — the same complex where Philadelphia holds spring training each February.
The Clearwater Threshers are the Single-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, playing in the Florida State League at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Florida. The franchise has been continuously affiliated with the Phillies since 1985, when the organization moved its Florida State League team to Clearwater as the Clearwater Phillies. The team was rebranded as the Threshers in 2004 when it moved into its current home adjacent to the Carpenter Complex, the Phillies' spring training facility.
The Threshers — and before them the Clearwater Phillies — have served as one of the most productive development stops in the Phillies' farm system. The list of future stars who passed through Clearwater reads like a Phillies Hall of Fame: Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Cole Hamels, Scott Rolen, Jim Thome, and Curt Schilling all played in Clearwater at some point during their rise through the minors. The franchise won Florida State League championships in 1993 and 2007.
BayCare Ballpark (originally Bright House Field, later Spectrum Field) opened in 2004 and holds approximately 8,500 fans. The stadium doubles as the Phillies' spring training home, giving Clearwater one of the most modern facilities in Single-A baseball. The naming rights deal with BayCare Health System was finalized in 2021.
The recent seasons have been marked by competitive play, highlighted by the 2023 squad's 79-50 record and a second-half championship in 2025. Under the direction of the Phillies' analytically driven player development department, the Threshers continue to churn out prospects and provide an essential foundation for Philadelphia's major league success.
