Fredericksburg Nationals

The FredNats carry on a franchise lineage stretching back to the 1978 Alexandria Dukes, now channeling Washington Nationals prospects through a sleek new stadium in historic Fredericksburg — with a 2024 Carolina League championship already on the mantle.

The Fredericksburg Nationals — affectionately known as the FredNats — are the Single-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, playing in the Carolina League at Virginia Credit Union Stadium in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The franchise traces its lineage to 1978 through the Alexandria Dukes, Prince William Pirates/Yankees/Cannons, and Potomac Nationals, making it one of the oldest continuous franchises in the Carolina League.

The team relocated to Fredericksburg for the 2020 season (delayed by the pandemic to 2021), moving into the brand-new $35 million Virginia Credit Union Stadium. The modern 5,000-seat ballpark, complete with a club facility and 13 suites, was financed and built by the Silber family's Potomac Baseball, LLC, under a 30-year agreement with the city.

The FredNats have quickly made their mark in their new home. The 2024 squad captured the Carolina League championship, bringing the franchise its first title in the Fredericksburg era. The team has served as a key development stop for Washington's rebuilding farm system, giving fans a front-row seat to the next generation of Nationals talent.

Ownership transitioned in 2025 when the Silber family sold the franchise to Diamond Baseball Holdings, though the team's affiliation with Washington and its Fredericksburg home remain unchanged. Under new manager Chris O'Neill for 2026, the FredNats look to defend their championship while continuing to develop the future of the Nationals organization.
