Lake Elsinore Storm
Four-time California League champions and the Single-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres since 2001, the Lake Elsinore Storm have been one of the most consistently competitive franchises in the Cal League for three decades.
The Lake Elsinore Storm are the Single-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, playing in the California League at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore, California. The franchise traces its lineage through a series of relocations — from Santa Clara (1979) to Rohnert Park (1980) to Palm Springs (1986) — before settling in Lake Elsinore in 1994 with a new ballpark and a weather-inspired identity.
Since joining the Padres organization in 2001 through an affiliate swap with Rancho Cucamonga, the Storm have built one of the most productive development pipelines in the minor leagues. The partnership has produced four California League championships (1996, 2001, 2011, and 2022), with countless future major leaguers passing through The Diamond on their way to San Diego. The Storm's 12 playoff appearances and five championship series since the Padres affiliation began speak to a sustained culture of competitive excellence.
The Diamond, a 7,866-seat facility opened in 1994, provides an intimate Inland Empire setting where fans can watch tomorrow's Padres stars up close. The ballpark's hitter-friendly environment and desert heat provide a unique developmental challenge for young players, and the proximity to the Padres' major league operation in San Diego ensures close organizational oversight.
Under new manager Brallan Perez for 2026, the Storm continue to serve as a vital first step in the Padres' development ladder. The franchise's combination of championship history, organizational stability, and community support has made Lake Elsinore one of the most respected Single-A operations in baseball.
