Myrtle Beach Pelicans

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are the Single-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, bringing four Carolina League championships and beach-town charm to the Grand Strand since their 1999 expansion debut.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are the Single-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, playing in the Carolina League at Pelicans Ballpark in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Established as an expansion franchise in 1999 by Capitol Broadcasting Company, the Pelicans returned professional baseball to the Grand Strand and immediately made an impact, winning a co-championship in their inaugural season when Hurricane Floyd canceled the deciding game of the championship series.

The franchise has won four Carolina League championships across three affiliations: co-champions in 1999 and outright champions in 2000 (Braves), 2015 (Cubs), and 2016 (Cubs). The back-to-back titles in 2015-2016 coincided with the Cubs' own championship run and cemented the Myrtle Beach-Chicago partnership as one of the most productive in the minor leagues.

Pelicans Ballpark, which has operated under various naming-rights agreements since opening as Coastal Federal Field in 1999, provides a unique minor league experience just blocks from the Atlantic Ocean. The resort-town setting attracts both dedicated locals and vacationing tourists, giving the Pelicans a diverse and enthusiastic fanbase that few Single-A teams can match.

Under owner Chuck Greenberg, who purchased the team from Capitol Broadcasting in 2006, and returning manager Yovanny Cuevas for 2026, the Pelicans continue to develop Cubs prospects while delivering the kind of affordable, family-friendly entertainment that has made them a Grand Strand institution for over a quarter century.
