Tampa Tarpons

The Tampa Tarpons are the Single-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, playing in the Florida State League at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida. Established in 1994 as the Tampa Yankees, the franchise was rebranded as the Tampa Tarpons before the 2018 season, reviving a name used by an earlier Tampa FSL franchise for over 30 years.

George M. Steinbrenner Field — originally Legends Field — opened in 1996 and serves as both the Yankees' spring training home and the Tarpons' regular-season venue. The stadium incorporates design elements from the original Yankee Stadium, including identical field dimensions, giving prospects a taste of the big-league stage. The facility was renamed in 2008 in honor of longtime Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, who lived in Tampa.

The franchise has won five Florida State League championships (1994, 2001, 2004, 2009, and 2010), with the back-to-back titles in 2009-2010 representing the most dominant stretch in franchise history. Notable alumni include Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Aaron Judge, Phil Hughes, and numerous other players who advanced through Tampa on their way to the Bronx.

Under new manager Zak Wasserman for 2026, the Tarpons continue their three-decade mission as the Yankees' Single-A development hub in Florida, providing an intimate setting where fans can watch future pinstriped stars take their first steps toward the major leagues.
