Al-Fateh SC
The shock 2013 league champions from Al-Ahsa, Al-Fateh SC proved that the Saudi Pro League's greatest underdog story was no fluke — four years after their first top-flight promotion, they were lifting the trophy.
Al-Fateh SC are one of Saudi football's great underdog stories. Founded in 1958 in Al-Mubarraz, in the Al-Ahsa oasis of the Eastern Province, the club spent decades in the lower divisions before earning their first-ever promotion to the Saudi Pro League in 2009. Just four years later, in one of the biggest shocks in Saudi football history, Al-Fateh won the 2012-13 league title — the first championship for a team from Al-Ahsa.
The title win was a fairy tale that captivated the kingdom. Under coach Fathi Al-Jabal, Al-Fateh outperformed clubs with far greater resources and history, proving that tactical discipline and team spirit could overcome financial disparity. The championship brought unprecedented joy to the Al-Ahsa region and established Al-Fateh as a permanent fixture in the Saudi Pro League consciousness.
Since that remarkable season, Al-Fateh have worked to establish themselves as a consistent top-flight presence. While they haven't repeated the title triumph, the club have avoided relegation and built a reputation as tough, well-organized opponents. Under Portuguese manager José Gomes for the 2025-26 season, Al-Fateh continue to represent the Eastern Province with pride.
The club's home in Al-Ahsa — one of the world's largest natural oases and a UNESCO World Heritage Site — gives Al-Fateh a unique geographic identity in Saudi football.
