Al-Najma SC

Back in the Saudi Pro League for the first time since 2003, Al-Najma bring over two decades of pent-up ambition from the Qassim heartland to the biggest stage in Saudi football.

Al-Najma SC — "The Star" — are one of Saudi football's great comeback stories. Founded in 1960 in Unaizah, a historic Qassim Province city known for its agricultural heritage, the club last competed in the Saudi Pro League during the 2002-03 season. More than two decades later, they earned promotion in May 2025, returning to the top flight for the first time in over 22 years.

The club's long absence from the top flight makes their 2025-26 Saudi Pro League campaign a momentous occasion for the Unaizah community. Under Portuguese manager Mario Silva, Al-Najma face the enormous challenge of competing against clubs that have spent billions on international talent, but their passionate local support and the hunger that comes from years of waiting provide a unique energy.

Unaizah, with a population of around 170,000, is one of the principal cities of the Qassim region, and Al-Najma serve as its primary sporting institution. The club's green and black colors are a source of civic pride, and their return to the top flight has been celebrated as a landmark moment for the region.

Al-Najma's story is a reminder that Saudi football extends far beyond the superclubs of Riyadh and Jeddah — and that the dream of top-flight football burns just as bright in the heartland.
