Al Nassr FC
Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival in January 2023 turned Al Nassr into the most-watched club in the Middle East, but this Riyadh institution was already a nine-time league champion with seven decades of history and a fiercely loyal fanbase.
Al Nassr FC — "The Global" — are one of Saudi Arabia's founding football institutions. Established in 1955 in Riyadh, the club have won nine Saudi Pro League titles and a total of 29 competitive trophies, making them among the most decorated teams in the kingdom. Their golden era in the 1990s, powered by legendary striker Majed Abdullah (the all-time top scorer in Saudi football history), established a standard of attacking football that endures in the club's DNA.
The club's global profile exploded in January 2023 when Cristiano Ronaldo signed from Manchester United, making Al Nassr arguably the most famous club in the Middle East overnight. Ronaldo's arrival catalyzed the Saudi Pro League's transformation into a destination for world-class talent and brought unprecedented international media attention to the Riyadh-based club.
Off the pitch, Al Nassr's 2023 acquisition by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (75% stake) aligned the club with the kingdom's Vision 2030 agenda. The investment has funded squad upgrades — Sadio Mané, Otávio, and Aymeric Laporte have all worn the yellow — and modernized operations. Al-Awwal Park, the club's 25,000-seat home in Riyadh, has become one of the most electric venues in Asian football on matchdays.
Despite the star power, league titles have remained elusive in the Ronaldo era, with Al Hilal and Al Ittihad claiming the 2023-24 and 2024-25 championships respectively. For the 2025-26 season, Jorge Jesus — fresh from his successful stint at Al Hilal — has been tasked with finally converting Al Nassr's celebrity into silverware.
