Al-Taawoun were founded in 1956 in Buraidah, the capital of the Qassim Province, by Saleh Al Wabili under the original name 'Al-Shabab.' The club grew alongside the city, developing a passionate fanbase in one of Saudi Arabia's most important agricultural and commercial centers. Through the pre-professional era and the early decades of the Saudi Pro League, Al-Taawoun built their reputation as the Qassim region's strongest club, consistently competing for promotion and establishing themselves as a well-run organization. In the 21st century, Al-Taawoun have established themselves as a consistent Saudi Pro League club, spending the majority of seasons in the top flight. The club have built a reputation for tactical discipline, strong home form, and the ability to upset bigger opponents on any given matchday. While league titles have remained out of reach, Al-Taawoun have challenged for upper-table finishes on multiple occasions and have competed in the AFC Champions League, testing themselves against continental opposition. Under Brazilian manager Péricles Chamusca for the 2025-26 season, Al-Taawoun have been one of the league's early-season surprises, reportedly occupying second place in the standings during the opening months.
