Omaha Storm Chasers

The Omaha Storm Chasers hold the distinction of maintaining the longest continuous parent-affiliate relationship in all of Triple-A baseball: the franchise has been the Kansas City Royals' top farm club since 1969, a partnership spanning over half a century. Originally known as the Omaha Royals, the team briefly rebranded as the Golden Spikes (1999-2001) before reverting to the Royals name, then adopted the Storm Chasers identity in 2011.

Werner Park, which opened in 2011 in suburban Papillion, replaced legendary Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium and gave the franchise a modern home in the growing Sarpy County area south of Omaha. The $36 million, 9,023-seat ballpark features the region's weather heritage in its design ethos — fitting for a team named after the tornado-chasing tradition of the Great Plains.

The franchise's alumni list reads like a Kansas City Royals hall of fame. George Brett, Bo Jackson, Carlos Beltran, Zack Greinke, and the core of the 2015 World Series championship team — including Salvador Perez, Eric Hosmer, Lorenzo Cain, and Mike Moustakas — all developed in Omaha before starring for the Royals.

Manager Patrick Osborn takes the helm for his first season in 2026 after serving as bench coach in 2025, becoming the 20th manager in franchise history. The team was acquired by Diamond Baseball Holdings in 2024 from Alliance Sports, continuing a long tradition of private ownership that has included an investment group once led by legendary Omaha native Warren Buffett.
