Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders
The New York Yankees' Triple-A affiliate since 2007, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders play at PNC Field in northeastern Pennsylvania, led by 2025 IL Manager of the Year Shelley Duncan, and serve as the final stop before the Bronx for one of baseball's most famous organizations.

The Red Barons Era
Phillies baseball in NEPA
The franchise began play in 1989 as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, the Philadelphia Phillies' Triple-A affiliate. Playing at Lackawanna County Stadium in Moosic, the Red Barons tapped into northeastern Pennsylvania's passionate sports culture and quickly became a community institution.
The Red Barons developed notable Phillies talent including Scott Rolen, Pat Burrell, and Jimmy Rollins during their 18-year partnership with Philadelphia. The franchise won the International League Governors' Cup in 2000, their crowning on-field achievement during the Phillies years.
The Phillies moved their Triple-A affiliation to the newly formed Lehigh Valley IronPigs after the 2006 season, ending the partnership but opening the door for a new — and ultimately more famous — affiliation.

The Yankees Era
The last stop before the Bronx
The franchise became the New York Yankees' Triple-A affiliate in 2007 and rebranded as the RailRiders in 2013, adopting a railroad-themed identity that honored the region's industrial heritage. The rebrand coincided with a major $43 million renovation of the ballpark, which was renamed PNC Field.
The Yankees affiliation transformed the franchise's profile. Every top Yankees prospect of the past two decades has passed through Scranton, including Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres, Gary Sanchez, Luis Severino, and Anthony Volpe. The proximity to New York City — roughly two hours by car — means PNC Field regularly draws both hardcore NEPA baseball fans and Yankees supporters from the metro area eager to see the next generation of Bronx Bombers.
Manager Shelley Duncan won the 2025 International League Manager of the Year award and returns for his fourth season in 2026. His coaching staff includes pitching coach Spencer Medick, hitting coach Mike Mergenthaler, and defensive coach Raul Dominguez. The franchise, now owned by Diamond Baseball Holdings, continues to be one of the most visible and successful Triple-A operations in the country.
