Toledo Mud Hens

The Toledo Mud Hens are the Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, playing at Fifth Third Field in downtown Toledo, Ohio. One of the most recognizable names in all of minor league baseball — thanks in part to the M*A*S*H television series, in which Corporal Klinger famously wore a Mud Hens cap — the franchise traces its roots to 1896, making it one of the oldest in professional baseball.

Fifth Third Field, which opened in 2002 and seats 10,300 fans, is widely regarded as one of the finest ballparks in minor league baseball. The downtown Toledo venue was a transformative project for the city, anchoring the revitalization of the warehouse district and consistently ranking among the most-attended Triple-A stadiums in America. The ballpark features a grass berm, premium seating areas, and excellent sightlines.

The Mud Hens have been the Tigers' Triple-A affiliate since 1967, making it one of the longest continuous affiliations in the minor leagues. Over the decades, the partnership has produced a remarkable pipeline of Tigers talent, from Kirk Gibson and Alan Trammell to more recent prospects like Spencer Torkelson and Riley Greene.

Manager Gabe Alvarez returns for his second season in 2026 after leading the Mud Hens to an impressive 84-66 record in 2025. The franchise is uniquely owned by a nonprofit corporation overseen by a volunteer board appointed by the Lucas County Board of Commissioners — a community-ownership model that has been in place since 1965.
