The Bird-Jackson Era

Two championships and a franchise identity

Sue Bird was selected #1 overall in the 2002 draft, and alongside Australian superstar Lauren Jackson, built the Storm into a championship franchise. The pair won titles in 2004 and 2010, establishing Seattle as a premier WNBA market. Bird's floor generalship and Jackson's scoring and rebounding made them one of the greatest duos in league history.

Breanna Stewart was drafted #1 overall in 2016 and immediately elevated the Storm back to championship level. She won Finals MVP in both the 2018 and 2020 title runs, establishing herself as one of the greatest players in WNBA history. Stewart's eventual departure to New York as a free agent marked the end of an era, but her time in Seattle produced two championships and countless memorable performances. The Storm continue to build competitive rosters in the post-Stewart era.
