The Pensacola Blue Wahoos are the Double-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, playing in the Southern League at Blue Wahoos Stadium on Pensacola's picturesque bayfront. The franchise arrived in 2012 after owner Quint Studer acquired the Carolina Mudcats' Southern League membership and relocated it to northwest Florida, bringing affiliated Double-A baseball to Pensacola for the first time.
Blue Wahoos Stadium, which opened alongside the team in 2012, is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful ballparks in minor league baseball. Situated on a peninsula jutting into Pensacola Bay, the stadium offers panoramic water views from nearly every seat and has been named the best Double-A ballpark by multiple publications. The facility has also hosted concerts, soccer matches, and community events, becoming a centerpiece of Pensacola's revitalized downtown waterfront.
The Blue Wahoos have been affiliated with three MLB organizations during their existence: the Cincinnati Reds (2012-2018), the Minnesota Twins (2019), and the Miami Marlins (2021-present). Under the current Marlins affiliation, the team serves as a key development hub for Miami's rebuilding pipeline. PGA champion and Pensacola native Bubba Watson is a minority owner, adding to the franchise's local celebrity profile. Principal owner Quint Studer continues to oversee a franchise that has become a model for how minor league baseball can catalyze community development.
