Historical Figures
Owner
Robert Irsay acquired the Colts through a unique franchise swap with Los Angeles Rams owner Carroll Rosenbloom in 1972. His tenure is most remembered for the infamous midnight relocation of the franchise from Baltimore to Indianapolis in March 1984. Irsay's relationship with Baltimore was contentious, and the move remains one of the most controversial moments in NFL history. He passed away in 1997, leaving the team to his son Jim.
Owner
Carroll Rosenbloom was the original owner of the modern Baltimore Colts, purchasing the franchise in 1953. Under his stewardship, the Colts won NFL Championships in 1958 and 1959 and Super Bowl V in 1970. Rosenbloom swapped franchises with Robert Irsay in 1972, taking ownership of the Los Angeles Rams. He is credited with building the Colts into one of the NFL's premier franchises during the golden age of professional football.
