Alexis Lafreniere has been scorching hot, recording 11 points in seven March games including a hat trick against the Flames on March 10. The former first overall pick has four multi-point performances in his last five contests and looks like the star the Rangers always believed he could become.
After a middling stretch that dropped them to 22nd in the power rankings, the Rangers have won four straight and are clawing their way back into the postseason conversation. Lafreniere's surge has been the catalyst, but the entire roster seems to be playing with renewed urgency.
The Rangers traveled to LoanDepot Park in Miami for the Winter Classic on January 2, falling to the Panthers in what was a showcase for Florida's three-peat chase. It was a tough moment in a season that has had too many of them for a team with championship aspirations.
