The Jets dealt Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn to Buffalo at the trade deadline, and the moves signaled a team that recognized this season wasn't going to end the way they hoped. Winnipeg ranks 23rd in the power rankings, a disappointing outcome for a roster with legitimate star talent.
Tanner Pearson was also shipped to Buffalo for a seventh-round pick, as Winnipeg cleared roster space and accumulated draft assets. The Jets' core of Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele, and Josh Morrissey remains intact, but the supporting cast wasn't good enough to compete this year.
Winnipeg has too much talent to be this mediocre. The Jets need to decide whether to retool around their core or begin a more significant shakeup. With Scheifele's future always a question mark in Winnipeg, this offseason could define the franchise's direction for years to come.
