Year Three of the Relaunch

The Royals' return to NWSL in 2024 was rocky, and 2025 was only marginally better with a ninth-place finish. But the foundation is being laid: head coach Amy LePeilbet has a clear tactical vision, the new ownership group is financially committed, and the Salt Lake market has shown it will support women's soccer. Expectations remain modest for 2026, but a top-eight finish and playoff appearance would validate the rebuild.

Claudia Zornoza Anchors the Midfield

The Spanish international has been Utah's most consistent performer since arriving in 2024, and her experience from years in Liga F brings a composure that the young Royals roster desperately needs. Zornoza's passing range and set-piece delivery are elite, and the club has surrounded her with athletic runners who can capitalize on her vision. If the pieces click, Utah could surprise a few teams this season.
