Fresno Grizzlies
Once a Triple-A powerhouse, the Fresno Grizzlies were reclassified as Single-A in 2021 and now serve as the Colorado Rockies' California League affiliate — bringing professional baseball to downtown Fresno's Chukchansi Park with the same energy that made them a Central Valley institution for decades.
The Fresno Grizzlies are the Single-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, playing in the California League at Chukchansi Park in downtown Fresno, California. Established in 1998 as a Triple-A Pacific Coast League franchise, the Grizzlies spent two decades at the highest level of minor league baseball before MLB's 2021 reorganization reclassified them as a Single-A team.
The reclassification was a dramatic shift for a franchise that had hosted Triple-A baseball for over 20 years, with affiliations including the San Francisco Giants (1998-2014), Houston Astros (2015-2018), and Washington Nationals (2019-2020). But the Rockies partnership, which began in 2021, has given the Grizzlies a fresh identity as a California League competitor focused on player development.
Chukchansi Park, which opened in 2002 in downtown Fresno with a seating capacity of approximately 12,500, remains one of the finest facilities in Single-A baseball — a holdover from the franchise's Triple-A days that gives fans a major-league-quality experience at minor league prices. The ballpark has been a catalyst for downtown Fresno's revitalization and continues to draw strong crowds.
Ownership transitioned to Diamond Baseball Holdings in November 2023 after the team had previously been owned by Fresno Sports and Events, a group led by Ray and Michael Baker (part owners of the Colorado Rockies) and Jim Coufos. Under returning manager Cesar Galvez, the Grizzlies are building toward sustained competitiveness in the California League.
