San Jose Giants

The San Jose Giants were established in 1988 when the San Francisco Giants moved their California League affiliate to Municipal Stadium (now Excite Ballpark), a venue originally built as a WPA project in 1942 that had already hosted decades of professional baseball under identities including the San Jose Owls, Red Sox, Missions, and Bees.

The franchise quickly established itself as a California League force, capturing its first championship in 1998. In 2001, San Jose was declared co-champions with the Lake Elsinore Storm after the California League Championship Series was canceled following the September 11 attacks. The Giants added titles in 2005, building a reputation as one of the premier development stops in the San Francisco system.

Throughout this era, the ballpark hosted future major leaguers working their way through the Giants' pipeline, and the South Bay community embraced the team as an affordable family entertainment option in the heart of Silicon Valley.

The late 2000s and early 2010s represented the most dominant stretch in franchise history. The Giants captured California League championships in 2007, 2009, and 2010 — three titles in four years — establishing San Jose as the Cal League's preeminent franchise.

The 2009 season was particularly remarkable, with the team posting 93 wins, the highest single-season total in franchise history. The 2010 championship completed a back-to-back run that coincided with the parent club's own World Series victory, creating a top-to-bottom winning culture throughout the organization.

The 2011 squad posted a 90-50 record, and the 2013 team went 83-57, demonstrating sustained excellence even in non-championship years. This era produced a steady stream of talent that contributed to the San Francisco Giants' dynasty years, including three World Series titles between 2010 and 2014.
