Southern Roots
Decades of lower-division football in Saudi Arabia's far south.
Al-Okhdood were founded in 1976 in Najran, a city in the far south of Saudi Arabia near the Yemeni border. Named after the Al-Okhdood archaeological site — one of the kingdom's most significant historical locations — the club carried a sense of cultural heritage from their inception. For over four decades, Al-Okhdood competed in regional leagues and lower divisions, far from the spotlight of top-flight football. Najran's geographic isolation from the traditional footballing centers of Riyadh, Jeddah, and the Eastern Province meant the club developed largely on their own terms, building a loyal local following and developing talent from the southern highlands. The club's light blue colors became a symbol of pride for Najran's football community.

The Rise
Promotions, top-flight football, and southern pride.
Al-Okhdood's rise through the Saudi football pyramid accelerated in the early 2020s. Under manager Luis Antonio Zaluar, the club dominated the 2020-21 season, topping their group with 53 points from 30 matches and defeating Al-Orobah in the promotion playoff final to return to the First Division after nearly three decades. Further success followed, with the club eventually earning promotion to the Saudi Pro League. Portuguese manager Paulo Sérgio was appointed for the 2025-26 season, bringing European tactical expertise to a squad that needs every advantage to compete against the league's wealthier clubs. Al-Okhdood's presence in the Saudi Pro League ensures that the Najran region has representation on the biggest stage, and the club's supporters travel significant distances to support their team — a testament to the passion that football inspires even in the kingdom's most remote locations.
