Sugar Land Space Cowboys
The reigning 2024 Triple-A National Champions and Houston Astros' Triple-A affiliate, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys play at Constellation Field under the only manager the franchise has known at the Triple-A level, 2024 PCL Manager of the Year Mickey Storey.
The Sugar Land Space Cowboys are the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, playing at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas. The franchise's arc from independent-league expansion team to reigning Triple-A National Champions is one of the best recent stories in minor league baseball.
The team began play in 2012 as the Sugar Land Skeeters, a charter member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Constellation Field, a 7,500-seat facility in the master-planned community of Sugar Land southwest of Houston, gave the franchise a modern home in one of Texas's fastest-growing suburbs. The Skeeters won two Atlantic League championships (2016, 2018) and generated headlines by signing Roger Clemens for a brief stint in 2012.
MLB's minor league reorganization after the 2020 season brought the franchise into the Astros' development system. The team was rebranded as the Space Cowboys after the 2021 season, blending Houston's aerospace heritage with cowboy imagery in a name that captured national attention. The new identity was a commercial hit, driving strong merchandise sales.
Manager Mickey Storey has been at the helm for all six Triple-A seasons, compiling a 375-351 record and earning 2024 PCL Manager of the Year honors after leading Sugar Land to its first Pacific Coast League title and Triple-A National Championship. The Space Cowboys were sold to Diamond Baseball Holdings in December 2025 but remain an Astros affiliate, continuing to develop top Houston prospects at one of the PCL's most impressive facilities.
